Dawn of the Dead

George a Romero
1979
138 min (approx)
Extended credits
This is probably my choice for greatest zombie
film ever, this one's got it all, fantastic storyline, great
characters, absolutely tons of gore and a great ending. Romero
outdid himself with this one and I doubt if it will ever be
matched in the horror genre.
Carrying on from "Night of the living
dead" the world is being over-run by zombies whose sheer
numbers are multiplying at a terrible rate. A small group made up
of a couple who work for a tv station and two deserting soldiers
make thier escape from impending doom and take off in a
helecopter not knowing where the hell thier going. Eventually
finding a deserted mall where they decide to stay. Before too
long they have cleared the place of zombies , blocked the exits
and are living the high life oblivious to the goings on in the
outside world. Obviously this doesn't last and they are soon
plunged into a life or death struggle with another enemy who is
hell bent on taking what they've got . This is universaly known
as the no1 zombie film, and who am I to argue, this is one of my
most watched films ever, and a true classic. Still heavily cut of
gore for it's U.K. Directors Cut, it's a must to search out the
full length version the director intended you to see, if only to
check out "Tom Savini's" fantastic effects. A zombie
film lovers dream come true
Gore Highlights
Tons of gore from the outset and far too much
for me to list but here are some highlights.
In the opening section of the film where the
military are clearing a building of zombie's,
A guy has his head blown off with a shotgun,
there are multiple nasty gunshot wounds, a woman has a big chunk
taken out of her shoulder and her wrist, zombie's are seen
chomping on human remains.
Later when the escaping group land thier
helecopter to refuel they are attacked by zombie's and there is a
great scene where a zombie has the top of it's head taken off by
the propellor.
Later still in the mall they waste loads of
zombie's by shooting, stabbing, screwdriver through the head, you
name it.
The end of the film is very brutal with
beheadings, stabbings, limbs being ripped off, people ripped
apart and eaten, loads more bloody shootings and a none too happy
ending for our heroes. (Enough gore for any sicko to enjoy)
