More fantastic stuff from Fulci, this one concerns Doctor Freudstein, a 150 year old monster kept alive due to using the body parts of his victims to rejuvenate his body. This gives a good excuse for some typical over the top gore scenes with plenty of nasty stabbings, and other assorted gruesome murders. This is trademark Fulci, the usual dream like sequences as seen in "The Beyond" and "City of the living dead" are there and any fan of his other greats will love this. It's not his best film in my opinion, the Beyond is a hard to beat, but it's still up there with the best. Cut to shreads in the UK as usual, banned for a while and re-released in it's present form. Get it uncut or don't bother as the cuts are terribly done and very obvious (scene1: raised knife ready for murder. Scene2: Dragging blood-soaked body away. I wonder if that was cut??) Give me a break!!

Gore

One gore scene of particular note is a nasty decapitation scene, only this one takes many slashes to the throat spraying blood everywhere before finally falling off. Otherwise the usual cool Fulci gore applies.
