Night of the Living Dead

Tom savini
1990
This is the Remake of Romero's 1969 masterpiece
which unfortunately he didn't make any money from, so this
version was to be his pay back
I wasn't expecting much from this one to be
honest as usually remakes are inferior by a wide margin, and
while it's no match for the original it still captures the
atmosphere of fear of the original. The dead are coming back to
life with a craving for living flesh. A small group of survivors
barricade themselves in a house awaiting rescue. Fighting off the
increasing numbers of undead smashing thier way in.
As you would expect the visual quality of the
film is superior and it's in colour, which depending on your view
is good or bad. The film does benefit from the bigger budget with
real actors and better looking zombies. Some things worth
noticing are that the storyline remains almost identicle with a
few ecceptions put in to catch you out. The only major change is
the ending which is totally different from the original. This has
it's good and bad points, it allows the story to branch off and
show us more that's going on but on the other hand any big fans
of the first film's ending wont be impressed.
Gore Highlights
The gore in this film is nothing very offensive
and comprises of the usuall shootings and clubbings, but nothing
much worthy of note.
Surprisingly to me is the fact that one of the
best scenes of the original, the truck blowing up and the zombies
feeding on the charred remains, actually has less impact in the
remake.
