Night of the Living Dead

George A Romero
1969
This is the one that opened the floodgates for
the modern zombie movies. An incredible achievement made for
little money in black and white (although it was later
colourised) and with no real actors, just friends of
"Romero's" this film shows what is possible if the
vision of the director is strong enough.Even though he would go
on to create the classic trilogy of dead films and stamp his name
as one of the top horror directors ever, this film is still for
many people thier favourite, perhaps because of its simplistic
storyline of the fight for survival against all odds .
The dead are coming back to life and devouring
the living,to start with a few ,but with ever growing numbers.A
small group of survivors find safety in a house, board up the
windows and doors and wait for a hoped rescue. Will they be
rescued in time or at all from the growing numbers of the undead
beating at the doors and windows.
It's a very simple story but done so effectivly
it rates as a true classic of horror cinema.
Gore highlights
Apart from a few scenes of entrail munching there isn't much
to say here but what there is is very effective and was very
shocking at the time.
