Detailed Entries

Education

Church End Lower School

(Boys and girls aged 4-9)

The school is a newly extended school situated in Church Walk. It is divided into two units - the Nursery and the Main School. Children normally spend at least two terms part- time and one term full-time in the Nursery Unit and transfer into the Main School at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.

Following an OFSTED inspection the school was recognised by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in his annual report (1995/6) as a "Successful School" where the standards are consistently good, the quality of teaching is a major strength and the curriculum offers children a rich, varied and exciting experience and provides a happy working atmosphere for the children and staff of the school.

Shelton Lower School

(Boys and girls aged 4-9)

This is a small village school, situated on the outskirts of Marston Moreteyne. Children are normally admitted to school at the start of the term following their fourth birthday. Currently there are two classes, one for the younger and one for the older children.

Normally these are smaller groups than often found in larger schools, so teachers have a greater opportunity to know children individually, and can plan work to suit all abilities. Children are valued and nurtured as individuals in the family atmosphere pervading the school.

The aims of the school are:-

  • to develop independence, self-confidence and self discipline in order that each child may achieve their full potential.
  • to develop fully all aspects of a child’s growth: intellectual, moral, social, physical and emotional.
  • to provide an environment which is organised, industrious and stimulating

There are extensive and attractive grounds which include an environmental area and a football pitch.

Waste Disposal

Collections of waste are made on Mondays of each week, unless advised otherwise. The "Wheelie" bin is the only receptacle accepted by the collectors. Orange plastic sacks are provided for waste paper, plastics and metal cans - for actual details see print on the bag. The filled bag should be tied and placed on the bin.

A bottle bank is provided in the car park of the Bell Inn in Marston. For other items, including cardboard the nearest "tidy tip" is in Abbey Road, Ampthill. This tip is open each day. Times vary from winter to summer and on Bank Holidays
