This was a fish and chip shop. It was somewhat unusual in being both somewhat remote from the main cluster of shops and also in that it was attached to a residential bungalow where Mr Lawrence lived. He also operated a wet fish delivery round and smoked his own cod and haddock in a smokehouse to the rear of the premises. The house was well known to local children as it had a fish pond in the garden (not stocked with stock for the shop we would hasten to add!) On the 16th January 1968, whilst serving fish and chips, the fish fryer caught fire. Restoration proved to be too expensive so the shop closed and Mr Lawrence retired. The shop front was altered to fit in with the rest of the dwelling. Mr Lawrence is still living here at the time of writing (1998) after 66 years in residence.
