Dear Diary ...

It was one of those days when most of the TCC members were busy doing things not connected with the estate. But somehow four of us managed to get to the weekly Wednesday coffee morning in Clapham Court..

While there, we learned that some personal belonings of a resident had mysteriously disappeared from a cupboard.

The main item was an old typewriter that once belonged to a committee person of the Residents' Association (which became the TCC some six years ago) in the early days sone 30 years ago.

Obviously, this typewriter was of sentimental value to his widow. But we found out that she had not reported the "disappearance" to the police.

It is the usual reason. She was somewhere between "frightened to" and "I don't really want to bother them" that a lot of our elderly residents tell us!

We will have to speak to our friendly neighbourhood "bobby". Like us, he - and his inspector - tries to get it across to our elderly residents that crime should be reported to the police as soon as possible.

Everyone accepts that it is difficult to persuade elderly people to call the police for what they see as a "minor" incident! It is rather like some elderly entitled to some form or another of "benefit" - especially housing and council tax benefit!

We are often trying to suggest to people that they would probably be entitled to a little help with their rent and council tax. But this is not something that only happens on out estate, or just in Gloucester!

A ramp on a block in Sweetbriar Street has mysteriously materialised in the past few days. No one knows anything about it! Yet it is not complete.

Two things strike us as somewhat "odd". Firstly, there is no need for a ramp, not even to get a disabled person up the one step and into the doorway - this is because there are no flats on the ground floor in the entranceway and once inside the door, access to the flats is by a staircase only!

Secondly, is the question of the ramp in another block that should have been put in so that a disabled lady could get out of her ground floor flat in her electric wheel chair. Had some wires got crossed over the months?

It seems curious ... we get a ramp where one is not needed, and we have to wait months for one where one is needed!

Just a quick reminder that we DO know about the problems with the guest book. The problem is being worked on, but we suspect that the snag is at TenZero, the company that provides the guestbook at no cost to us. Some of you are Emailing us instead - and thanks for the comments.
