Our regular Why not check Back Issues |
Dear Diary ... It has been one of those days were we have not stopped, but we wonder just what we have done! Most of the morning was spent in the office doing routine stuff, like trying to keep up with the paperwork, and doing a bit of filing. We do tend to squirrel away paperwork from the council. But it does have its advantages! Our Housing Committee minutes and papers go back 10 years or more, so if the memory fails, then we can delve our archives. And the Housing Committee papers contain hand written notes of what was said by Councillors before reaching their decisions - these notes are most useful! In addition to the office work, we were able to assist and elderly person who wanted to try and get a flat in Clapham Court sheltered housing scheme. We have been told that flats in the scheme are often hard to let, so we soon put this person in touch with the allocations department. As we feared, the amount of "fly tipping" on the estate is increasing now that the council has put a £5 charge for up to two items of bulky household items. Up to the end of June, the service was provided at no extra charge, apart from the Council Tax. But with the new refuse collection contract becoming effective on July 1, this new charge was suddenly introduced, catching everyone, apart from councillors it appears, by suprise! The charge now levied has meant that there are a number of abandoned sofas, chairs, tables etc littering the estate. Mind you, there as always been fly tipping, but it has certainly increased in the past two weeks! The good people at TenZero have fixed the problem that has knocked out our guest book for the past few weeks. |
