Dear Diary ...

You won't believe this, but the City Council looks as though they are providing a swimming pool on the estate. Mind you, the council don't know this!

Swimming pool is atop our tower block, Clapham Court which is a 10-storey sheltered housing scheme.

There is no deep end and currently the water is about three inches deep.

An eagle-eyed resident of the block made the startling discovery over the weekend and hot-footed it to the TCC Office today.

We telephoned the housing office. They are going to sent someone round to unblock the drains so that the three inches of rainwater on the flat roof can drain away!

While on the subject of swimming pools ...

Many elderly residents in on the estate have been complaining that there is no adequate swimming facility in Gloucester during the few years gap in the knocking down of our leisure centre and the rebuilding of the new one. Anyone wanting to swim either have to make a long journey to one of the schools that has a pool (but they are usually closed to the public during the day!) or to journey over to Cheltenham - a two-ride bus trip!

To be honest, the Council has tried to provide alternative swimming - and other leisure - facilities in the city while the leisure centre is being rebuilt.

And while we might have a little moan about the elderly finding it difficult to go swimming because of these temporary arrangement (often swimming sessions are part of healthcare for the elderly!), at least the City Council is providing a new Leisure Centre on the old one's city centre site!
