Dear Diary ...

There has been this theory among residents of the estate over many years that when the estate was built in the 1960s, it was "gerry-built".

Even Council officers, 30 years on, admit privately that this was the case!

Last year when the window replacement programme reach flats and maisonettes in Swetbrian and Union streets, the contractor hit a major snag.

When the original wood window frames were removed, it was found that the building was not to design!

Last week, a resident in Columbia Close had a special disabled shower unit intsalled in the bathroom.

Some wall tiles had to be removed. And that is when it was discovered that there could well be something wrong with the structure of Colubia Close blocks.

We are not sure exactly what is wrong, but its something to do with the posibility of a concrete wall "disappearing" - well, it was not there when it should have been!

The builder installing the shower unit is said to have commented: "It's worse than jerry-built!"

Maybe we should search for evidence as to where the builders tied up their horses thirty years ago, just in case!
