Dear Diary ... What is generally called a busy day! In the morning it was Tenants Forum and the evening saw the monthly TCC meeting. The main topic of discussion at the morning meeting was the performance of the response repairs contractor and how the Leader of the Council had failed to consult tenants before extending the contract for a year. The representative from the Matson estate, the largest in Gloucester, was fuming at a letter sent by the Leader of the Council to the Tenants Federation. Our representative asked if the Leader of the Council was the same councillor who as Chair of Housing a few years ago was a key figure in "empowering tenants". The answer was, of course, yes! And we though that a leopard didn't change spots! Another topic was the "Choices" debate. Councillor officers are now setting up a working party in a bid to complete the "Choices Debate" by the end of March! More pressue on the time of tenants representatives, who are, of course, upaid! One person missing from Tenants Forum was our backup representative. She works and was unable to get time off. There were two other tenant members of Forum who were also at work. And where were the councillors? Only one of the four councillors was in attendance - the Liberal Democrat housing spokesperson, who is retired. The two Labour representatives and the Conservative all work! One good thing decided was that the next Tenants Forum would be held in the evening. Reflections on the TCC's October meeting will be posted tomorrow. The meeting went on until after 9 pm ... it has been a long day! |
