Dear Diary ...

Today, we went to Birmingham to visit the National Housing Federation's annual conference at the ICC (International Convention Centre).

We went last year and found it to be far less "overpowering" than the annual Harrogate "bash" in the summer.

After today's visit, our feeling have not changed.

There is one think that makes us think ... The National Housing Federation is an organisation of Housing Associations/social landlords! Their weekly magazine, Housing Today, is to us more "tenant friendly" than the other weekly. And their annual conference appears to us to be the same.

Food for thought. Does this mean that local authority landlords are less friendly towards tenants?

We have to admit that this is a question that needs addressing by the Government.

Star of today at the NHF conference just has to be Yvonne Hutchinson, a tenant of a housing association in Bradford. Our chairman went to the "Compacts, Consumers or Control: The Agenda for Tenants" session.

He came out of the session enthusing about Yvonne and what she had to say. "The best presentation by a tenant I have ever heard," he kept telling us.

When he has calmed down, we will get some information and include it in a future diary.

One of the exhibition stands that caught our eye was that of a company the produced fencing and bollards made out of recycled plastic pop and milk bottles.

At our Environmental Forum in Gloucester, the Cirt Council is always finding an excuse why they cannot have a scheme for plastic to supplement the glass, cans and paper recycling schemes.

One of their stock excuses is that there is no demand for plastic. For years our representative has been telling them: "Rubbish".

The company exhibiting in Birmingham is based in Lancashire. But the sales manager is a council tax payer in .... the City of Gloucester! We did suggest that wearing his council tax payer hat, he might like to make some inquiries at The Docks (the council's HQ)!
