  • The man who created the British National Health Service (NHS) in 1948 under a post-war Labour government, Bevan was noted as a good public speaker. A Welsh member of Parliament for over thirty years , he was made Minister of Health in 1945 , but resigned from the cabinet in 1951 whilst Minister for Labour protesting against the introduction of charges for the NHS, his own brainchild.
