Who should register with the Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés?

commerçants personnes physiques (sole-traders) even if they are also registered with the Répertoire des Métiers (Trade directory)

trading companies

sociétés civiles (non-trading companies) and other non-commercial companies

sociétés d’exercice libéral (business with a regulated and non-commercial activity)

GIE (economic interest grouping) and GEIE (European economic interest grouping)

EPIC (French publicly-owned establishments with an industrial or commercial activity)

overseas businesses which have a branch in France, and with a head office  located outside of French territory

commercial delegations or State trade agencies, "collectivités" (state, local, regional authorities), or foreign publicly-owned establishments established in France

legal entities governed by specific Acts

associations governed by the Act of 1901 when they issue bonds and when they have been in business for at least 2 years.
