Some cheats for some PC games
If you have a cheat that I ought to include, then please send me an e-mail.
Command & Conquer
| Loads of free minigunners |
Put the game on slow speed. Select the Sell button. Sell a defensive structure (Guard Tower, AGT, Obelisk Of Light, Gun Turret, SAM Site). Quickly right click, then select the structure and then press S to stop the sale. It gives the relevant number of minigunners (i.e. half the value of the building divided by the cost of a minigunner). It only works with defensive structures because they are the only ones which can shoot, hence respond to being told to stop.
Thanks to Mike Oertel for this one.
|
| Powerless Obelisk |
For an Obelisk that doesn't require power, do the following: Build an Obelisk then place it. Before it reaches the end of its building cycle click on it and his S. The Obelisk will appear without the power requirement bar going up. The drawback to this is that you lose the Construction Yard, so cannot build anything unless you build another one.
Thanks to Don Lucas for this one.

Once you've navigated the water, and gone through the portal, you will see the little star thing running away from you. It will lead you to the main room of the level. Kill the bad guys, and beware of booby traps. At the end of the walkway is a portal. It teleports you to wherever the star is. Wait for the star to go inside the big blob in the middle of the room. Then teleport, and watch the rubbish end sequence. |

Red Alert
| Create a rules.ini file |
In a word processor or text editor, load the file redalert.mix. Notepad won't load it, and I don't think edit will with less than 40Mb RAM. Word works just fine. WordPad works, but is very slow. If you are loading it into a word processor, then, obviously, do not save the file. In Word, in the Convert From box, select "Text Only". Likewise with other WP's. Search for ";rules.ini". Select all the text from the ";rules.ini" to the line just above where the credits start. Then Edit...Copy this. Paste it into a new text file. Save the file as rules.ini. |
| Edit it |
Before you start to change anything, you might want to copy the file to rules.bak, so you have a virgin copy, if you want to start the changes again.
Change whatever you feel like, except the things it says not to change. I have experienced some difficulties after fiddling with some of the artificial intelligence settings. It sometimes just locks up. Also, there is an upper limit to the number of bullets that can be flying around at any one time. If you make everything cost 1 dollar, then the skirmish players build hundreds of men. If these are all fighting, then some people may no longer be able to shoot. They go through the motions, but nothing happens. This can also (irritatingly) happen when you unleash a nuke. It just disappears.
|
Red Alert: Counterstrike
| Play the ant missions |
Hold down left shift and click on the speaker to the top right of the main screen. The missions are quite difficult, but quite good fun. |
Create a rules.ini file
This doesn't affect the new Counterstrike units, only the normal ones.

Total Annihilation
To type the codes, press <Enter> then type the code.
| Play any level |
Click on Total Annihilation's Single Player icon. When the Single Player Game page appears type DRDEATH (it is not case sensitive). This will cause a Cavedog Entertainment bone to appear between the Load Game and Previous Menu icons on the right side of the screen. Clicking on the bone will take players to a special Play Any Game screen where they can play any Total Annihilation mission, even if they have not earned their way to that level yet. |
| Have more than 4 skirmish players |
You go to the skirmish screen, and where you see 4 players you can change it to more. You hit the asterisk (shift 8) and then use the roman numeral for the number of players - for example to play 10 you hit the 'x'. On a slow machine, this makes things very slow indeed. But it should be good for those with 64Mb Pentium IIs.
