AresAres (Roman Mars) was son of Zeus and Hera, and god of war. Portrayed in the Iliad as an arrogant narcissistic butcher, hated even by his own father. He whinges when wounded by Diomedes, but fails to learn his lesson. His son Ascalaphus is killed in the assault on the wall, but he is prevented from murderous revenge by his sister Athena. She also disables him when they meet in battle in Book 21
