Hermes (Roman Mercury) son of Zeus, "slayer of Argus", messenger of the gods etc makes a late appearance in the Iliad. He is a reluctant warrior on the Greek side in Book 21, and, as patron of thieves - it is suggested that he could steal Hector's body from Achilles, but Zeus rejects the idea.
