Agamemnon can't sleep. Menelaus is also on the prowl, and suggests sending a spy to the Trojan camp. Nestor thinks it's a great idea, and goes to wake up Odysseus and Diomedes, but Diomedes tells him he's too old for this gig. Everyone wants to get in on it, but Odysseus is chosen, with Diomedes. Headgear is important on this mission; Diomedes has an ox-hide skull-cap, while Odysseus models a leather helmet decorated with boars' tusks. Thus accoutred, they pick their way through the darkness and the corpses. Meanwhile the Trojans apparently cannot sleep either...
