Like the earlier foundations at Helorus, Akrai and Kasmenai, Kamarina was a Syracusan colony. Its foundation was somewhat later than the others, at a time when Syracuse already dominated south-east Sicily. There's not a lot to see at the site - a few stones where once a Temple of Athena stood, and a pleasant little museum. It's a good situation, overlooking the African sea - and there's a modern holiday resort nearby.
