Projected Release Date: July 26, 1999
System: Nintendo 64
Out of many differences from the original Pokemon Blue and Red
cartridges, this game no longer features Ash Catchem as the main
character...in Pokemon Snap, you take the role of Todd,
a world-renowned Pokemon photographer (debuted in the TV episode,
"Pokemon Paparazzi"). Todd's driving force in the show
is to take the rarest and most beautiful pictures of Pokemon that
he can, and that is more or less his goal in the game as well.
The setting is an island with over 60 species of Pokemon on it,
and you cavort around with your camera trying to locate as many
as possible and get the best-looking shots you can. Once you've
used up your film, you take your camera to Professor Oak to have
it evaluated, and you score points with a system that takes a lot
into consideration (number of Pokemon in the shot, what the
Pokemon is doing, how centered the Pokemon is, etc.) Also, your
own status improves as time goes on. While at first you're armed
only with a camera, you can later pick up items like a Pokeflute
and an apple (to throw). The first of its kind, Pokemon Snap
promises to be a great game!
