Ash Catchem gets a starter Pokemon from Professor Oak, and goes
throughout the wide world of Pokemon looking to catch the 150
species of Pokemon and beat eight gym leaders so he can take his
rightful place as the Pokemon Master. Okay, so it's not a very
original story, what do you expect? Yellow will most likely be
the third in the Pokemon color cartridges to hit the U.S.,
and the most different of the batch. Instead of getting to choose
between a Bulbasaur, a Charmander, and a Squirtle at the
beginning, there is only one Pokeball at the beginning of the
game to pick...and Gary gets it: an Eevee. You, on the other hand,
have to rummage in the trash can for a Pikachu...sad, but very
worthwhile, as your Pikachu strengthens with time. There are also
a few other changes in the game, including Officer Jenny and
Nurse Joy (from the TV show) replacing generic characters
throughout. Also, although you don't get Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or
Charmander at the beginning, you can easily pick up all three in
close succession after leaving Mt. Moon. Definitely a worthy
bearer of the name Pokemon.
