Chris Moyles web site Chris Moyles is the best.
He was the reason I listened To Capital
FM. He is now the reason I listen to 97 -99 FM Radio 1. He started his new
early breakfast show on BBC Radio 1
at 04:00 - 07:00 am 28/07/97. Everything he does rules. His old Late Bit on Capital was
the highlight of the week, and incorporated many amusing features, including
Let's Look Out The Window - Chris would look out of the
window and tell everyone what's going on in London, then he would get everybody to flash
their lights.
I Don't Wanna Go To Work - Three callers would explain why
they don't want to go to work, then there'd be a (usually biased) vote, which would decide
who would get off work the next morning. One of the best was 'Because I want to stay at
home and watch videos of the Wombles!'.
At Home With The Penk's - Chris' interpretation of life at
Capital DJ Steve Penk's household
Steve Penk Wind Up Calls - Chris would phone up people
pretending to be Steve Penk, and call people 'fruitcakes' and 'tarts'
The Poxy Chart - The top five songs going around in Chris'
head over the last week, including impersonations of Dr Fox (Dr Pox).
Elvis Sings The Top Ten - This was Chris singing the top ten
Elvis-style. His 'Coco Jambo' was legendary. Many songs ended with 'Thank You Very Much'.
Bed Time Stories - This feature annoyed many young listeners,
as this was Chris' series of stories for the child-listeners snuggled up in their beds.
Fly-Boy Flip - Moyles' impression of an American rap artist,
sung to the instrumental version of Men In Black by Will Smith. You had to hear it to find it funny
- believe me if you had, you'd be forever a faithful Chris Moyles listener.
This is just a few of the many very funny elements of Chris'
shows. The voice overs, comments on the spice girls, special Chaz 'n' Dave versions of
Wannabe and also his infamous Wallace and Grommit track. Capital DJs grew to hate him, as
he was constantly making fun of them and creating special adverts against them, and even
spread (probably untrue) rumours about their private lives. There were also regular
callers who enhanced the show - Mr Camp and Dave from Basildon FM were two of the most
famous.
Now his Early Bit show on Radio One is well established, I
shall tell you of some of the features included.
True Or False - A game where you say whether a statement is
true or false to win a prize - only there aren't any prizes! No-one can ever win, as Chris
decides whether it is true or false -
Chris: Are Zippy and George from Rainbow gay?
Caller: False
Chris: Yes they are, they're very happy!
Showbiz News - lies from the world of show business.
Guess the missing word or words - Chris plays a clip and you
have to guess the word edited out - an obvious word like 'one' after BBC Radio, but even
if you get it right, Chris will say that you're wrong - obviously.
If you can, listen to his show. It is very good, a superb
start to the day - it's a shame it's so early, but it's worth it.
05/08/97 Update
Yeah, Moyles has started to do very, very good Mark and Lard
impressions. Mark Radcliffe and Lard do the breakfast show on Radio One after The Early
Bit. Oh, yeah, Chris' mum thinks Mark is better than Lard! Mark Radcliffe was responsible
for White Town's fame, so respect to him. Actually, Radio 1 has has helped the majority of
British music stars find fame - everyone from Prodigy to Oasis would be nothing without
Radio 1 - respect is definitely due.
11/03/98 Update
Chris has gone from strength to strength. He currently does
an additional Saturday Morning show, and often takes over from Kevin and Zoe on the Radio
One Breakfast show.
23/04/98 Update
Today, Chris Moyles was quoted on the front page of The
Times no less! Talking about the predicted battle between Three Lions '98 and How Does
It Feel (To Be On Top Of The World), he said "Three Lions will be huge on the
terraces because everyone already knows it, but as for the charts, I don't know; it might
be close".
27/04/98 Update
Chris Moyles was in The Times again today. The BBC
have plans for a new music show with Chris Moyles. That's gonna rule - I'll keep you
posted!
15/06/98 Update
There's a brilliant new Chris Moyles web site (Come On! - The Almost Official
Chris Moyles Website)which is immensely popular and started only two months ago
(And Chris has already mentioned it on-air). The site is packed full of information, very
well designed, features a quiz, gallery and audio clips, and is basically a million times
better than this page - though this site was the first ever Chris Moyles tribute site -
on-line back in August 1997.
21/10/98 Update
Radio One's schedule is now based entirely around Chris
Moyles. He has been promoted to the drive-time slot and is more popular than
ever. He now gets name-checked by all the top celebrities, and features regularly in
the tabloid press. |
