| I do not usually
review compilation albums, but this is something very special. Sky TV's annual football
anthems CD this year features some stunning tracks. The CD is worth buying for the Adam
& Joe Footie Song alone. Adam & Joe are the funniest comedy duo on television, and
the footie song was the highlight of their last series. The two Channel 4 stars know
absolutely nothing about football, yet set about writing a football song that turned out
to be better than all the competition. On this CD there's the League Edition with a new
verse and some classy guitar riffs - they even rhyme Chelsea with Wee-Wee! Also on the CD
is Chris Evans' favourite We're On The Ball (A new '98 version with a cheesy rap), the
insanely infectious Great Escape '99 & Herewegoherewegoherewego. Other football
related songs on the 37-track double CD include Massive Attack's Angel (From the Adidas
World Cup Ads which were pulled as soon as Beckham did you-know-what), Fatboy Slim's Song
For Lindsy (The theme to Sky Football) and Chumbawamba's Top OF The World (Ole Ole Ole).
The CD is not just about football, as there are many other cool songs on there too - the
infamous Perfecto Mix of Mansun's Wide Open Space, Supergrass' Tonight & The
Commodores' Machine Gun, both from the Carling Premier Adverts, Robbie Williams' Let Me
Entertain You (yeah!), David Holmes' My Mate Paul, Fatboy Slim's overused, yet still cool
Rockafeller Skank, Stretch 'N' Vern's cool mix of Cyclone by dub pistols, Mighty Dub Katz
(Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook) mix of Fluke's Absurd, the awesome mix of the Luniz classic I
Got 5 On It, Blondie's Atomic 98 (Tall Paul's superb new remix), Storm's anthemic Storm,
SMDU, and a wicked unreleased new big beat remix of Jamie White's The Cool, The Fab &
The Groovy - Soul Bossanova. The only thing that lets this CD down is the inclusion of
Three Lions '98. Shame. |
