Cornershop and offshoot Clinton rule.  It may have taken years for the Anglo-Asian group to score the success they deserved - Mercury nominated LP and a number one single which went on to be the 17th biggest selling disc of 1998 and was even played on Friends. Judging by the response to their grueling touring with Oasis (where everyone went to see them rather than the band they were supporting) these guys are going to be the biggest group on the globe!

Cornershop are one of the best groups in the world. The main blokes from the 'shop are Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayers. Cornershop are so popular that Oasis (The group Cornershop called 'a pile of ******* ****') literally begged them to tour America and Canada with them. Most readers will probably know them best for their massive smash hit single 'Brimful Of Asha', from the cult album 'When I Was Born For The Seventh Time' from 1997. Norman Cook (AKA Fatboy Slim) loved the track so much, that he remixed it for free (instead of demanding around 50,000 UKPounds). He just wanted to be able to play the track in the 'Big Beat Boutique' in Brighton (Home of Skint). So what does it all mean then?
  • Asha - Asha Bhosle is a singer in Asian movies, dubbed over actresses in films when they cannot sing.
  • Sadi Rani - Indian movie singer
  • Mohammed Rufi - Punjabi folk singer, who did a tribute song to Ghandi in 1948
  • Lata Mangeshka (RIP) - Asha's elder sister
  • Bon Publique - French for Good People, from a track by Georges Brassens
  • Jacques Dutronc - '60s Garage musician, married to Francoise Hardy
  • The Bolan Boogie - The music of T-Rex and Marc Bolan
  • Argo Records - Record label that put out strange music, such as children's poetry and Shakespeare's plays
  • Trojan Records - Jamaican 60s/70s Reggae & Ska label, featuring (among others) Bob Marley.

Destined to be another massive hit from Cornershop's LP When I Was Born For The 7th Time. This is much slower than Brimful Of Asha, and does not come with Norman Cook remixes, but it's still an amazing release, and just as catchy as the previous release. The Les Rhymes Digatales and Ashley Beedle remixes are also great, though it is unlikely to get to number one in the UK chart like BFOA, due to stiff competition from the likes of All Saints, Aqua and Madonna, but there's always hope.
