| Decent music. What is
it? Not this I hear you say. But who are you to decide what is good and what is bad? Who
am I? Everybody has different tastes in music. So all music is good music to someone? No -
all music is enjoyed by someone - even if it is just the composer, but that does not
necessarily make it good music. As far as Mackies World is concerned, all real music
is good music - but what is real music? It is anything, unless it has been written just to
make money - like those cheesy 911 covers and Steps entire back catalogue, and then
there is Billie, who writes songs specifically designed for little girls to spend their
pocket money on - only written to make money. |
| Lighthouse
Family - Postcard From Heaven |
 |
| However much
Lighthouse Family bore me, I cannot deny that all their records are excellent - well
written, expertly produced, but all sounding astonishingly similar - this is definitely
good music (Obviously written from Paul and Tundes hearts, and has nothing to do
with the inevitably large cash advance for the multi-platinum second album, which was the
9th biggest selling CD of the year in the UK). |
| Beautiful
South - Dumb |
  |
| Beautiful South are
anything but Dumb. With every record they release, the press releases always state
one simple fact - they are one of the highest selling British bands in history. With only
the Beatles selling more than them world wide, Heaton and Rotheray are, like Norman Cook,
former members of the Housemartins. They have had enormous success with all their albums
and singles, and Dumb is the second single from the partially Fatboy Slim produced
No.1 LP, Quench. This single is instantly recognisable as the Beautiful South, and
has their trademark cant-get-it-out-of-your-head chorus which is probably why their
records sell in bucket-loads. |
| Boyzone
- I Love The Way You Love Me. |

Gets Tough review |
| Boyzone have got
better and better each year. Originally they had no talent whatsoever, and relied merely
on their looks to sell records, but with songs such as No Matter What and the new I
Love The Way You Love Me their music has certainly matured. Its still not decent
music though. There are very few occasions suitable for Boyzone, but I guess the end of
all those Christmas and New Year parties coming up will be ideal for Boyzones brand
of pop music. |
