Members: Skye Edwards / Paul Godfrey /
Ross Godfrey / Pete Norris |
| Although they do not
fit within the boundaries of any pre-defined musical genre, Morcheeba are often described
as trip-hop. This term is not something they agree with, so more recently the
press have refered to their unique brand of music as a mix of hip-hop, Cajun, rock, funk,
blues and pop. They are now a well-established, critically acclaimed group with two
gold-selling albums. Some of their music has featured on adverts and on soundtracks
to television programmes. Morcheeba have also shown their remixing skills on tracks
such as The Dust Junkie's What.Time.Is.It? The four piece band have also worked on
the George Gershwin tribute album Red Hot + Rhapsody, from which the new single Summertime
is taken. They have worked with David Byrne and American hip-hop group Reflections
Eternal, friends of the band.
Skye (vocals and reproduction) is the voice and face of the
group. Of the two Godfrey brothers, Paul (lyrics, navigation, programming, scratching and
live drums) is the older. Ross (all guitars, sitar, pedal steel, lap steel, clavinet,
Hammond, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer piano, drums, EMS synthesiser, MKS 80 and bass) is the
main instrumentalist. They make up the live band, but in the studio, Pete Norris is the
co-producer. |
