| This film rules! It's
the best film I've seen all year. No actually it's better than anything I saw last year as
well. In fact it's the best film since Trainspotting! It's almost as good as Trainspotting
- and it's more enjoyable than The Rock! The direction is superb (Especially as the
director was a tea-boy four years ago) - the way it slows down all the time is amazing and
every shot is superb. This film cost well under a million pounds to make, yet the acting
is excellent, the sets are perfect and the plot couldn't be better. The best thing about
this gangster film is the humour - it is so serious, yet so funny - especially when the
Cockney (London) English is converted into English-English in the subtitles. Vinnie Jones'
'aggressive' style of football adds a very nasty edge to his gangster character -
surprisingly he is a very good actor - I'm sure that if you're not British, and didn't
know Vinnie's past, you wouldn't realise that he's a professional Football player and not
a professional actor. All the other actors are very good too - and there's even a few
appearances by none other than Sting! There's inevitability lots of swearing and a bit of
violence in this film, but if you can stand that, then go see it - you won't be
disappointed, and there's a brilliant soundtrack too (Madonna loves the film so much that
she was desperate to sign the soundtrack for her Maverick record label). |
