History
Group Members: Gary Stringer / Kenwyn House Jack Bessant / Dominic Greensmith
Reef are very cool.  Their massive success in this country (Glow went Platinum) was partly due to their stunning performances of Chris Evan's TFI Friday in late 1996.  They recorded a now infamous jingle for the It's Your Letters feature of the show - to the tune of their Reef's biggest UK hit - Place Your Hand.  Unfortunately, everybody started singing the TFI version of the song at all the subsequent gigs.  Reef, whose name is an anagram of Free, a band which had a huge influence on all the members.  In an interview with NME's Mark Beaumont in November 1997, Gary Stringer, the lead singer, was asked that, if he had three wishes, what he would wish for.  His reply was "For my friends and family to be content; to make a top new album; to have a million more wishes".  We will not have to wait long to find out if the second of those wishes has come true - New Reef material is expected before the end of the year - 15 of the 23 songs which the group have been demo-ing in England will have been recorded in LA by now.

Reef’s Replenish debut was a refreshing change, a true quality recording. Glow was a cool but commercial follow up. Rides is better than both - as fresh as Replenish, as cool as Glow, with loads of tacks with The New Place Your Hands written all over them - Brit-rock classics in waiting, such as the infectious Back In My Place which has to be released as a single - its too good a track to waste - buy the LP just for this if nothing else! Love Feeder, Hiding, Sweety they are all fantastic - it’s so good to hear well written lyrics, and even better to play an album and not be able to find a track I don’t like - the only truly great rock disc of the year.
