One of the best films ever made, without a doubt. Steven Spielberg is an absolute genius. The acting is superb, especially from Tom Hanks, who plays the lead character. The film also includes Cheer's Ted Danson, and the guy out of a couple of X-Files episodes and Friends (Phoebe's brother). It is very, very realistic - for many too realistic - apparently people all over the world have been throwing up, fainting and just leaving the cinema during Saving Private Ryan. Nobody did so in our cinema - I think we all were just thinking about the fact that people younger than ourselves had to go through all this for real not so long ago - so that really stopped you feeling so queasy (Though it is understandable that some people wouldn't be able to cope with so much blood and guts (literally) and the language which is, at times, justifiably strong). The whole cinema was silent for the vast majority of the film. Nobody spoke when it finished (There's a plain black screen before the credits). There are a couple of moments which made everyone laugh - Spielberg cleverly used the two funny parts to split the film into three, and make it more watchable. It is an amazing film (The main battle seen is the best one I have ever seen - no action film comes close to that level of excitement, also it is one of the few films without that happy an ending), but don't be fooled by it's classification (15 in the UK) - If this film was on a different subject the violence would lead to it getting either banned or an adult classification.
