I am also looking to become a freelance location sound recordist. My training will come from an ex-BBC engineer.

January 1999

I am in negotiation to produce a training video for Jon Clift Training which will be marketed by the Royal Yachting Association.

December 1998

Worked freelance for Sky Sports covering a Plymouth Argyle FA Cup match.

November 1998

Worked as a technical advisor, handling sound and camera for Clocking Off Productions video drama "We are Family". The involved me using a Sony DVW 700 camera.
Helped Real TV with "Children In Need" as a rigger and cable-basher and future work is expected.

October 1998

One week spent at BBC SouthWest work experience. Helped with sound on live location and spent time with editors.
Assistant to TV engineer, Joe Driver who has built his own scanner van. Soon to embark on promotion film for a local animal sanctuary, with Joe as his technical operator.

Sept 98 – June 99

Began Professional Qualifying Exam course. It is an industry recognised professional certificate that is supported by the BIPP. I aim to enhance my various abilities and develop more as a professional. Through doing this, I also hope to take a few of the Skillset training courses. This is fully vocational and would not impinge on any employment opportunity.

August 1998

Shot an interview with Rentokill Chairman for Reuters’ Financial News
Also did work experience with Sky News & Reuters.
Various outings for GMTV as a freelance cameraman. I hired a sound recordist and we captured summer holiday issues with a journalist. We spent a day with the coastguard doing high speed water shots. Material was used for following morning’s GMTV news.
Pick up video work for Video Ex, an Exmouth corporate video company.

Handling various small shoots for Denham Productions, using a Beta SP Sony 400 AP camera kit.

Worked for TVF as a runner on "The Sacred Weed", for Channel 4.

June 1998

Developed a promotion film for Cornish based boat company called Square Sail, who specialise in providing films with 17th Century sailing vessels. Spent two days on one called The Phoenix. This has been digitally edited using Premiere and will be delivered to them end of June.

Aug 97-June 98

I became involved in the Parish of Thurlestone's millennium film project, which is a two-year project. We hope to outline the town’s history as well as today's activity. My part-time involvement is to be the principal cameraman handling a Hi-8 camera. It has led me to work with professional broadcasters such as Tony Soper the television naturalist and our scriptwriter David Smeeton, an ex-BBC Radio world news correspondent. I have been filming church bells ringing, cliffs and various interviews, also spent time filming on a mock-brig vessel.

Spring 1998

Worked on three different projects to develop my range of camera expertise. "Touch" is a 15-minute feature done on 16mm film, using an Arriflex SRII camera. This has been selected as the South West's drama entry for the Royal Television Society Awards, with noted praise from the judges for my camerawork. "Know Your Bible" is a mock TV quiz done in the University TV studio, this has given me extra TV studio experience. "Mutant Zombie Soldiers from Space" was a video spoof of the classic Hollywood B-movies.

Sept. - Dec. 97

As part of my HND, I had to take part in a television studio production. The whole experience was very enjoyable, where I undertook several roles from, developing the 3D titles, doing some of the camerawork for the pre-recorded inserts, video-operation and even presenting the weather.

Sept. 1997

I spent one week doing work experience for Capital Studios, Wandsworth, London. Helped out as a participant for Carlton's "Remote Control Cookery Show". Studied the making of Regent Productions’ "15-1" game show. Spent a day with Peter Harris (Carlton TV Director), learning the processes involved in preparing a live TV show as well as watching him direct both "15-1" and Carlton's "Thursday Night Live".

Feb ‘94 - Sept ‘96

Transferred from the MOD to the Child Support Agency, Plymouth. I was promoted to Administrative Officer, where handled benefit calculations and client enquiries. I left to pursue my ambition to be involved in film and television, by becoming a full time student.

Jan ‘92 - Feb ‘94

Began a civil service career within the Ministry of Defence at, Devonport Naval Base, Plymouth. I began as an Administrative Assistant handling a variety of top level clerical duties.

1990-1992

I worked for TV Director, Hugh Thomas on recce video footage for Pobl-y-Cwm.

Also set up a small sideline doing photographic printing for people wishing to have B&W reprints.

1988-1990

Whilst I was doing a City & Guilds Video & TV course, I produced 3 short films, each had a working time of 1 week.

1985-1988

I worked freelance for professional theatre & opera companies such as Moving Being and the Welsh National Opera, providing them with video films of their shows, to gain sponsorship.

1985-1986

I did extra-work for BBC Wales, "Keep On Running" & "Shadowlands" (with Joss Ackland).

1984 - May ’91

Worked for Pizzaland in Cardiff & Plymouth. It was my way of paying the rent and I eventually ended up from dish washer to  Head Chef & Kitchen Manager. I left owing to my son’s ill health at birth. His long term treatment 200 miles from where we lived made it impossible for me to work & visit him.

1984-1987

I got involved in setting up a film workshop, using 8mm film. Some of these films were shown at the Celtic Film Festival.

1984-1986

I attended a photography course at Llanover Hall, Cardiff, which helped me, develop my creativity of work.
