Captain Leslie Morris Bsc FNI MRINA

Leslie Morris founded Con-Mar International Ltd., at the end of December 1997. He holds a Master Mariner's Certificate and a degree in Nautical Studies, specialising in Naval Architecture. Following a seafaring career during which he served in many different types of ships in all ranks up to Master, he joined the teaching staff of a major nautical college. He ran the radar department and also lectured in control systems.

For the past 18 years he has acted as a Marine Consultant and Surveyor. During this period he has attended marine casualties world-wide and has extensive experience of marine litigation in the UK and abroad. Leslie has been involved in many salvage and wreck removal operations. In the offshore oil and gas industry he has approved major operations on behalf of oil majors and insurance interests.

CASUALTY INVESTIGATIONS

Leslie has attended casualties all over the world. These include collisions, groundings, cargo shifts, pollution, unsafe ports/berths, fires and flooding. He has worked extensively with Goverment Officials, Salvors, anti-pollution specialists, lawyers, environmentalists and shipowners' representatives.

SALVAGE AND WRECK REMOVAL

He has monitored salvage operations world-wide on behalf of shipowner's P&I Clubs and Government Departments, working closely with salvors, especially on matters relating to Aritcles 13 and 14 of LOF 95. Leslie has also supervised wreck removal operations, often negotiating contracts with salvors and at all times working closely with Government Officials and Departments. He has worked with major international salvage companies on a variety of operations.

EXPERT WITNESS

Leslie also has extensive experience as an expert witness, having appeared in court in several countries. In addition to appearances at Arbitrations and in the Admiralty and Commercial Courts in England, he has considerable experience of US Courts, having appeared in the District Courts in New Orleans, Philadelphia and New York. He has also given evidence at an Arbitration in Miami. In 1998, he appeared at two jury trials in New York, both involving claims brought by passengers against a major cruise line, one being a class action.

OFFSHORE OPERATIONS

Having initially being involved in offshore operations in the North Sea while serving on cable ships in 1975, Leslie later acted as a marine adviser and warranty surveyor on a number of offshore operations and projects. During this period he attended projects in serveral countries, acting on behalf of oil and gas majors and their insurers. A recent major operation was the HIBERNIA Project in Newfoundland. His involvement culminated in attendance on board as warranty surveyor during the platform tow to field, and its placement on location in the Grand Banks.
