Launch of 1,000m³ trailing suction hopper dredger YASIN

The naming and launch ceremony of the 1,000m³ trailing suction hopper dredger YASIN has taken place at the shipyard of IHC Holland in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. The dredger is for the Ports & Shipping Organization (PSO), the port authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The ceremony was performed by H.E. Mr. Panahiazir, Ambassador of Iran in the Netherlands.

YASIN was ordered from IHC Holland NV, in close cooperation with the local Marine Industries Group (M.I.G.) of Iran, in September 2003. The keel was laid on 25 February 2004  IHC Holland’s shipyard in Kinderdijk. In September 2004 she will sail under her own power to Iran where delivery will take place at the end of this year. The dredger will be used for the maintenance of Iran’s harbours on the Caspian Sea.

The twin screw trailing suction hopper dredger has a nominal hopper capacity of 1,000m³ and a maximum loading capacity of 1,425 tons at a draught of 4.00 meters. She is equipped with one suction pipe and can reach a maximum dredging depth of 8 meters. Her hopper is fitted with one row of four bottom doors, in order to discharge spoil directly. Spoil can also be pumped ashore via a floating pipeline.  YASIN has a laden speed of 11.3 knots. The ship has accommodation for 14 people.

YASIN is equipped with an oil recovery installation with two rigid arms. The installation is entirely self-supporting, and can be stored on shore. YASIN is not suitable for dealing with oil with a low flash point, and is therefore classified as a second-line type vessel. Being continually "under steam" and operationally manned, the vessel can assume her oil fighting duties at very short notice. Deploying dual purpose vessels, such as YASIN, pays in term of economics and readiness for action.
