Double Suction Tube Position Indication system for "Port Méchins" Damen Dredging Equipment recently delivered two Suction Tube Position Indication (STPI) systems to the hopper dredger "Port Méchins" of Dragages Verreault Inc. in Canada. The system consists of transmitters plus the necessary soft & hardware.
The 750 m³ hopper dredger, built in 1949 and still in good condition, had an old Meconaut suction pipe position system, based on the bubble-principle. This system has worked well over the past 40 years, but the time had come for a state-of-the-art trailing pipe positioning system. Should the "Port Méchins" be replaced in the future, the new system can be easily transferred to another dredger. The delivery of the entire system, complete with its transmitters, was done only 4 weeks after ordering. The installation only took 2 working days as the crew had already prepared all cabling.
