Four partners in the consortium
Doha International Airport Steering Committee (an institution of the Government of Qatar) has awarded a contract for dredging and reclamation of the platform for the New Doha international Airport to a consortium of four dredging companies - Qatar Dredging Company, Royal Boskalis Westminster, Dredging International and Great Lakes Dredging & Dock Company.
The Notice to Proceed was given on 1st December 2004 and the project is to be executed in a contractual period of 24 months by the consortium. The assignment covers the creation of a new platform for the construction of the international airport and involves the borrowing at sea, and reclamation, of 60 million m3 of sand. The total contract value amounts to 1.53 billion Qatari Ryal (€ 337 million), the Boskalis share being approximately 30%.
Qatar Dredging Company is a Qatari-Belgian joint venture between Dredging International (DEME-Group), a private Qatari partner, U.D.C., and the Government of Qatar.
The US based engineering company Bechtel is the Project Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Contractor and representative of the Owner of the project.
A total number of 11 major dredging vessels will be deployed to ensure the completion of the works within the contractual time limit.
