Reclamation of land for cruise terminal - Turks & Caicos Islands
Van Oord - Rotterdam, The Netherlands, has been awarded the contract for the reclamation of land for the construction of a cruise terminal, and making the entrance, on the Turk & Caicos Islands. The client is the Bahamas based T&C Cruise Terminals Ltd. The total value of the contract amounts to EUR 3 million. The execution starts in January 2005 and the project is scheduled for completion in March 2005.
Van Oord will deepen the entrance to the future cruise terminal by ten metres, involving the removal of 350,000 m3 of spoil. The dredged material is to be used for the reclamation of the terrain. To avoid any environmental consequences, the dredged spoil is collected in a nearby Salina.
Van Oord will deploy the cutter suction dredger ‘Hercules’ for the project.
