Happier Futures Leave a Lasting Legacy Riding for the Disabled

District 19 Chairman ~ Elaine Parker

Welcome to the website of Inner Wheel District 19. I hope that you will find all the information that you want or need. It is an honour and a privilege to be your President this year; I am really looking forward to it.
I joined Barrow Inner Wheel Club in 2010 after my husband joined Barrow Rotary Club in 2009. What a marvellous collection of new friends I found! Many thanks to all of them. Since joining I have come to realise what a wonderful organisation it is and what marvellous work it does. I have so far served as International Organiser, Vice President and President of Barrow Club, and Vice Chairman of District 19. Taking on the Chairman’s job is a challenge, but I am really looking forward to meeting everyone in their Inner Wheel Clubs in our beautiful and varied area.
Our three sons, Martin, Jason and Simon are all settled now, and we have six grandchildren. We lived abroad for eight years (following my husband’s work as a Research Agronomist) in Beirut and Athens, and returned to the UK to farm after my father’s death. A new phase began after our children left home - I went back to college and qualified firstly as an advanced pâtissière, then in catering and finally as an NVQ Assessor and Adult Education Lecturer. I now run an Outside Catering business with my business partner (Kath Brown - another Inner Wheel member!)

The International theme this year is ´Leave a Lasting Legacy´. Perhaps the best way to do this is by supporting projects which will continue into the future to serve people both locally or internationally.

The charity which Liz Thomas, our Association President is supporting this year is Children’s Hospices, many of which rely completely on charitable giving. My charity is ´Riding for the Disabled´, as I have seen the remarkable way that children react and develop with this activity.
There is an amazing range of strengths, talents and activities in our clubs: I feel it is excellent that, while all our members have the same objectives, we go about achieving them in so many different ways. Like many organisations, we need new participants to make sure that our work continues, so look out for potential new members!
The friendship, help and support we give each other and our local communities is a reward in itself, but do make sure that YOU HAVE FUN! Your Club’s activities should be the basis of an enjoyable fellowship.
