Bollnas Sweden 1997 - 300km North of StockholmThursday - We arrive in Stockholm and are taken on a tour of this wonderful city by our hosts from Bollnas Round Table, while we wait for one of our number (who shall forever be known as Passport Tim) to turn up on a later flight after discovering that morning that his passport had expired and getting a new one from Peterborough. Friday - The day of the Church Boats and the herring. The morning was spent rowing two huge 'Church Boats' along a beautiful river, stopping half way so that we could sample the 'delights' of fermented herring washed down with a vodka. There was a second stop so that we could go swimming before we ended up a a BBQ Pig Roast with outside sports. The evening (if I can remember through an alcoholic haze) consisted of a tour of local drinking establishments before I returned to my host's house (thank you Mats and Maria) for a whiskey on the verandah at 3am in Broad Daylight Saturday - The traditional formal meeting in Bollnas town hall, followed by lunch at Vaxbo Mill. The evening was the 'final party' where we got to sample the local specialty of Elk and Ligonberry. Sketches followed from each country - including a very bizarre sketch from our Swedish Hosts. Sunday - Hangovers and the farewell breakfast on top of a hill overlooking Bollnas. |
