The weather wasn't particulary pleasant (it was drizzling and blustery) but I headed for the country park anyway, in the hope of finding the heronry which I suspected may be there. I saw the usual tits, Robins, Treecreepers etc. as I walked along the what used to be the site of a railway line which runs behind my house to the country park. I was surprised to see that the flock of Redwings that I had seen a few weeks earlier were still there. I thought that, with the mild weather we've been having, they would have returned to Scandinavia.
I walked along the river and watched a female Siskin as she bathed in the water about ten yeards away from me. A pair of Dippers were feeding in the middle of the river, perching on stones while constantly bobbing up and down and occasionaly diving under the water to pop up seconds later with some kind of larvae. I had seen these birds quite often when I used to fish this river a few years ago but they definitely seem to be more scarce now than they were then.
As I approached the lakes I saw a Grey Heron and I continued on hoping to find a heronry. I didn't, but what I did see was much better from my point of view. I sat down near the foot of the cliff hoping to see the Ravens that I thought may be nesting there. The Ravens were at the cliff but I couldn't see any sign of a nest. Suddenly, two Peregrines appeared and landed on the cliff face. One of them flew off a short while later but the other bird stayed for a long time. They must be intending to nest there and I will be keeping a watchful eye on the situation.
