While looking over the seven hundred foot sea cliffs of Formentor on the north of the island we saw a few dark falcons fly onto ledges on the rocks hundreds of feet below and heard young calling. They were Eleanora's Falcons. These birds nest in colonies on islands in the Mediteranean. They are about the only species which breeds in the autumn to take advantage of the abundance of passage migrants upon which they prey.
