I walked upstream from the bridge near the car-park and saw a Grey Wagtail and two juvenile Dippers flying off in front of me. I followed a path up past the waterfall and was walking quietly along when I heard a rustling noise on my right. I turned and caught a glimpse of a Grey Squirrel as it shot up the trunk of a tree like a rocket, and there, staring longingly after it was a Fox. It had obviously been chasing the squirrel and in the excitement had not seen me at all, even though I was only about twelve feet away. There was a slight rise in the ground between the fox and me and as the animal turned and started to walk towards me I lifted my camera to take a photo. The fox stood on the top of the rise barely six feet away and just as I was about to press the shutter release it realised I was there and ran off in the opposite direction.
There were Tree Pipits singing everywhere on the hillside above the woods and I had a close view of a male and juvenile Redstart as I stood quietly under an Oak. I went down into the woods and watched a pair of Willow Tits flitting from tree to tree and saw a Great-spotted Woodpecker. I could hear the distinctive call of a Wood Warbler but couldn't see it anywhere. I also saw a Jay, Blackcap and a very pale Mistle Thrush.
