Michael Allen is a novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. He is the author of eleven novels, two collections of short stories, and three non-fiction books; he has also had work successfully produced on the stage, television, and radio.
Michael is best known as a crime writer, and his series of detective novels featuring Ben Spence is listed in two leading reference books on crime fiction: A Reader’s Guide to the Classic British Mystery, by Susan Oleksiw; and Sleuths, Sidekicks and Stooges by Joseph Green and Jim Finch. Reviewers have described Michael Allen as ‘a true blue murder master’ (Michael Demarest in Time) and ‘in the top ten of crime writers’ (Ted Willis in The Bookseller).
Michael Allen is currently the owner and operator of a small press, Kingsfield Publications, details of which can be found on a separate web site. Michael also maintains a weblog, Grumpy Old Bookman, which provides a more or less daily commentary on books and publishing.
