After leaving Cambridge, Michael had a career in education, first as a teacher (until 1972), and then as a university administrator at the University of Bath. Michael was for many years involved in running Bath University Press, an academic publishing house; from 1990 onwards he was the sole Director of the Press.
In parallel with his career in education, Michael Allen always maintained a parallel career as a writer (full details of which are provided on this web site). Michael retired from education in 1996 and became a full-time writer and publisher. He is currently the owner and operator of a small press, Kingsfield Publications, further details of which can be found through this link to a separate web site.
Since 1996 Michael has on several occasions acted as an editor, lecturer, and consultant on publishing issues; he is open to further approaches in these roles.
Michael is married, with two grown-up children and two grandchildren.
