WHITEHALL LODGE first opened the doors to the public over twenty-five years ago (1972) as a residential care home. It is registered and inspected by the Socal Services and is an approved supplier of care facilities to Norfolk County Council. Currently the Lodge is registered for 29 residents.
| QUALITY ASSURANCE is taken most seriously at Whitehall Lodge, each and every member of the staff is part of a care team carefully recruited and trained to the highest standards, whose duty is to promote a pleasant and caring home for the benefit of the residents. Testimony to the long term commitment to the quality of care and service can be seen in the various staff training certificates in the hallways of the home. It is a condition of service that all staff undertake training.
OUR PHILOSOPHY at Whitehall Lodge is to create a home free from rules and petty regulations. Where residents can each be cared for as individuals according to need and ability. Care is given willingly and with kindness, having due regard to residents diginity & privacy at all times. |
It is near to the centre of Norwich, about 10 minutes walk if we are able. Local shops are much closer, The Post Office, Bank, Public Library and bus stop are all a short stroll away. A lovely small park is just around the corner.
Whitehall Lodge is not a large purpose built institutional modern complex. It is very much a home for individuals. The lodge is a quite substantial Victorian terrace, originally built by the Church to house a local cannon and his large family and staff. (we have twenty or so bedrooms). Our Architect very skillfully adapted the house to retain and enhance the lovely ceilings and rich Victorian decor.
We only have a small garden, it is in the summer a very sheltered suntrap. The garden is paved and terraced and was designed during the year of the Disabled and was our contribution to that cause. It was designed to allow even the frailest to be able to enjoy a garden from a wheelchair. The flowerbeds and even the pond are raised to wheelchair height. We have a small summerhouse and a heated greenhouse for residents use. Most gorund floor rooms have direct access to the garden
Whitehall Lodge can offer a wide range and choice of accommodation. A single room, or a double to share with a partner, with or without en-suite facilities. The more independent may prefer a small sheltered flat where one can live independent of the residential complex, but safe and secure that help and companionship is but a few steps away if required. All of the accommodation is furnished and carpeted. We hope you will bring some of your own personal possessions with you, such as your family photos, radio, plants or treasures ornaments. However, accommodating larger items can present problems, please talk it over with us before arranging delivery.
Whitehall Lodge has a modern and upto date kitchen which you are welcome to visit at any time. (do ask to see the report from the Environmental Health Officer). Although the surroundings may be high tech; the food is still cooked in the time honoured traditional way, in a four oven Aga Cooker. Whatever your taste or special dietary needs, cook will ensure these are catered for.
Is held at Whitehall Lodge at least once each month for those who are not able to attend regular Church services.
An occupational therapist helps to co-ordinate the social activities of the home. Residents, with her help, organise summer fetes and open days. Organise trips to the coast and to the Theatre. A Bi-annual newsletter is now being produced. The Editor is one of our residents.
Should you make Whitehall Lodge your home, we hope that your family and friends will see just as much of you as they do now, either in your home or in theirs, and that they will take you out and do little jobs for you just as they have been used to doing. If you wish to talk privately with your visitors you may of course take them to your room or to a spare sitting room or wherever you are comfortable, it is your home and your visitors are welcome at anytime. If your visitors have come from far away, it can even be arranged for them to have some refreshment if we know in advance.
Naturally we shall want to know if you are going to be away from Whitehall Lodge for any length of time, either on holiday or staying with friends. We make a reduction of fees of 10% for each week you are away
Is a small community, hopefully tolerant of each others individual needs and wishes for privacy, choice and dignity, which we all respect. We must also respect the need for safety and good health. With this in mind, accommodation is not offered to smokers and we also ask visitors to refrain when in the home.
The staff will always be ready to listen to any matters that are worrying you or to your suggestions for the improvement of the home. Should you have any problem the staff cannot resolve or you fell unhappy to complain to the staff about, then the Social Services will be happy to listen and to help you. Contact:-
