Linlithgow Palace
Birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. All the Stewart Kings lived here and later it housed Cromwell, Bonnie Prince Charlie and, after Culloden, the Duke of Cumberland. If you are traveling between Edinburgh and Stirling, Linlithgow is well worth a visit. There is a museum inside the Palace which tells the story of this Royal Burgh.

Stirling Castle

The castle has strong links with Mary Queen of Scots. She was crowned in the chapel in 1543 The Stuart kings made Stirling Castle one of their key strongholds, building within its walls a renaissance palace unique in Scotland and now being restored to its full glory once more. James VI, who became the first King of both Scotland and England, held his royal court here.

Wallace Monument

The monument stands on the Abbey Craig, overlooking the site of Sir William's greatest victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. A very popular tourist destination, displays Wallace's huge 6 foot broadsword and presents a historical audio-visual presentation which is well worth a visit. The tower, stone built and with a spiral staircase leading to the top, has 246 steps. Sitting on top of the Abbey Craig, a volcanic plus worn down over the ages, the top of the crown of the monument stands over 500 feet above the valley floor, giving incredible views for miles around.
