Volume 4. House |
Samples especially to dance to. Don't strike me as being especially housey to be honest, but that doesn't change the fact that these are especially catchy samples. Those eJayers after a one hit wonder will get all they need right here (okay that's not exactly true - an understanding of mixing techniques helps). Bouncy! I mostly used this kit to make "The Aquisition (Of a Higher State of Mind)" which you can hear on my main page. Overall these samples represent to me a non-cheesey (always a good thing) but lighthearted club tune (sounds great at 125bpm). Although there is more to it than that, you'll need to see for yourself. |
Volume 5. Trance |
Samples for the deep, serious eJayer. These are like more atmospheric versions of the House samples. Watching my words carefully I would say that this kit is more reminiscent of an acid taking underground scene. This is most definetely my favourite kit, as I tend to make music more to listen to than to dance to. I managed to get a sound more like Big-Beat than dance which is evident in my tune "Fly-By Shooting" made mostly with the Trance Kit which you can hear on my main page. |
Volume 6. Latin Dance |
Hmmmmmm....... I am still in two minds about this one. Authentic sounding enough. If you liked that tune "Samba De Jinero" (don't know how to spell that) you'll like this. It has a very exotic feel (Spanish?).I would say that if you were only going to buy one or two kits look towards the other two, as the result of a mix made with this kit alone does tend to sound quite cheesey. That said, if you already have the other two and u are looking towards getting the full kit, a lot of the Latin Dance samples don't sound so bad when they're played alongside a House or a Trance sample. This applies especially to the drum samples. I love all the congos and samba fills, they sound great with the other kits. I used Latin Dance samples in all of the tunes on my main page. |
The verdict: |
You veteran eJayers already know the score. You buy your basic eJay program, and have hours of mixing fun with no complaints. However, you never realise what you're capable of until you get the samplekits. Then suddenly all of the original samples start to sound crap. I loved Rave eJay, but once I got the samplekits and made a few tunes, I didn't want to play my original tunes to anyone because I now had loads of phat Drum'n'Bass sounds. The same applies here. Sure, you just got Dance eJay 2, and sure, the samples are waaay superior to the Dance eJay samples... but you just wait until you're banging out a good House tune: you'll never look back. . |
You can use these kits with Dance eJay too, though with Dance eJay 2 in the shops I don't know why you'd want to. Actually, as the sounds on every eJay Sample Kit are also in WAV format, you can use them in any music program that supports WAV files.
If you want to try before you buy, there are samples from
these kits available for download at the German PXD eJay site at http://www.ejay.com - you'll need
to click the German flag.
