The Tenth Terribly Tantalizing Newsletter

Eeerrr ummmmm, trainee deputy under assistant editor Simpson here so I shall try to keep the mad cow/Jon style (sounds more like a position out of the KS to me!) going...

Picture the scene: lightning flashing across the sky, thunder crashing to earth like a Chinese satellite, stirring music such as Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyrie'. Icy Northern (shandy drinking) winds blowing. Yes you've guessed it the Superdrooper's summer programme has commenced - the camping season has started.

I am reliably informed by a little bird (a French one actually) that the Bank holiday camp at Loch Tay was a giga-giggle, even though the weather may have been a little suspect... i.e. sun, rain, hail, snow, sun! Only the French air traffic controller's strike was missing from the Bank holiday activities. Anyway, the 15 or so present managed to lug their lardy carcasses up a few hills, get wet in Loch Earn and practice their diplomatic skills with neighboring campers - a good time was had by all!

So what else is upcoming (apart from the obvious morning horn for all those thinking about future Superdrooper trips):

Well Bank holidays would not be complete without a Superdrooper's trip, so the next two bank holidays have been sorted out by our very own Butt Hooker, Emma.

May 24-27th: Cornwall - get ya surfboards oot. We're going to Bude. We have a Scout hut to sleep in, no beds so bring a roll-mat as well as the obligatory sleeping bag/yak womb. Fees are on a donation basis, but the standard “donation” seems to be a pound a night. It’s a Bank Holiday so it’ll go on ‘til Monday. I would guess that we can probably camp here as well. For a cunning map, see over the page.

Aug 23-26th: Coniston - at the copper mine hut. Space for thirty here, but it appears that we can get more in than that. BRING YOUR MATES. There seems to be a strict no camping policy, so indoors again. (Slight cock up really, freeze to death camping in Norway, overheat in a British summer inside a cosy hut!)

Other trips, planned, unplanned and just plain accidental:

June 28-30th: Peak District - Camping in the peat bogs

July 26-28th: Gower - Another camping trip to somewhere near Three Cliffs Bay.

Sept 27-29th: Bryn Hafod - The loveliest hut in mid-Wales. Still to be confirmed.

Dec 13-15th: Dunmail Raise - Provisionally booked, but is this too close to Christmas? Comments please...

Big reminder

Get your cauldrons out, because we have the Superdroopers homebrewfest over the August Bank Holiday. Minimum entry requirements - one crate! So time to fish out those old sock, secret recipes, pre-distilled pure ethanol, yak yeast and bung them into the melting pot. Some early ideas on prize categories - best tasting, most inventive/amusing name, foulest tasting, quickest through system etc.

Next big reminder

Some people from the last two trips needs to write a brief and amusing summary of the trip, so that we can stuff it into next year’s year book, which may well include this years!

And then...

Zoe (of fleecey fame) is having a party to which everyone is invited. You must bring: (1) Fancy dress (theme: Tribal). (2) A musical instrument (pref. homemade). (3) A bottle (pref. filled). (4) B-B-Q stuff. (5) Photo of, or actual article for, “Guess what it’s for” competition. (6) Anything else you might need for the rest of the weekend in the Peaks. There’s space on the floor to sleep. The place: Flat 1 or 2, 2 Harcourt Rd, Crookesmoor, Sheffield. For more info, ring Zoe on (0114) 266 3728.
