The Game is Afoot
'Victoriana Fhtagn' is a PBEM Call of Cthulhu game set in Victorian England. The players will take on the characters of Victorian men and women as they try to uncover the hideous evil that lies beneath the civilised veneer of society. Their efforts will be hampered by the forces of evil and the social mores of the time. All inquiries must be made with the utmost discretion and tact for fear of social condemnation......and to prevent the character from having his, or her, face eaten by a creature from beyond time.
Each week we, the Referees, will send out the the beginning of the next turn. Over the next week the players will add their actions in and interact with each other....and any NPCs that they may happen upon. There is no limit to the number of times that a player may add to the turn during the week, but the cut-off time for the turn is 17:00 hrs (London Time) Saturday. We will then create a Turn report for the previous week and send it out to all players and any people who may be watching from the sidelines. At the same time we will send out the next turn to all the players....and so it goes on. Any additions to the week's turn submitted after 17:00 hrs Saturday will be ignored completely.
If we need to impart private information to a player (for example..to let a player know that they have gone somewhat insane and should roleplay that until they hear otherwise) we will send a separate email to that player when it is necessary. Players should use the 'Reply to All' function of their email client when sending in their turn contributions. The only time you will not use this is when some players are not in the same game location as you. In that case you will only send to the Referees and players who are with you. If players wish to hold a whispered conversation (in order to keep something secret from other people in the location) they should ensure that they send only to the people in the converstion AND the Referees. Any mail that does not have the Referees copied in is not considered to be part of the Game.
All posts should be written in the
third person eg.
' John walks
over to the window and tries to open it. Finding that it has been nailed
shut he turns his attention to the door. As he walks over to the door he
looks at Mary and sarcastically enquires, "Any chance of you doing
something creative and helpful at some point in the near future?'
<response Mary>
He
half listens to her reply as he sets his mind and muscles to the Herculean
task of forcing open the sturdy door. '
The person playing Mary will add in her character's response and any other actions that she wants her to perform. If you need a response from the Referees, simply use the following format <response ref> and we will add in whatever is required.
If you want to say anything Out of Character, please send a separate email or put it right at the beginning or end of your turn response between the initials eg. OOC ' blah blah blah ' OOC.
NB: all roleplaying should be done in character and should reflect the Victorian period. This may involve slurs towards nations other than England. All that we ask is that there are no personal insults thrown around the game and no white supremacist propaganda or racial abuse. This game has been flagged as an adults only game...we don't care how old you are, only how mature your mind is. The completed turns will be posted on this site as they were played, unless we deem something to be beyond the pale. We reserve the right to edit anything that is posted on this site.
