Gerald Sandow
Born of peasant stock east of Naples, left family at age twelve after father threatened to send him to a Sulphur Mine. After several months begging on the streets of Naples joined a criminal gang and "learned the trade" of house breaking. Was captured one night while in the house of a Jesuit Priest, Father Assunzio Calvadore, and taken in the "beneficent arms of the Church". The priest was a middle ranking officer of the Holy Office, better known as the Inquisition. Garibali was given basic schooling by day, while at night he would undertake various pressured "errands" in selected victims' houses, usually to steal suspect documents, either by himself or working in a professional team, thus perfecting his criminal career. At age 19 fled Italy with the consent of the Church to England (some job gone horribly wrong) and is currently (if not for the rest of his life) a sleeping agent. Has rare contacts with a dwarf called Rizzo (english/italian extraction, contacts with the London criminal world and a Holy Office spy).
Received false references and began a long career from estate to estate as a servant, the last one being a bodyguard/companion to a succession of gentlemen travelling abroad. Most hobbies/duties include reading Latin, English and Italian, riding coaches and other servant duties, boxing (as protector of his master), shooting (played a second in duels), mountain climbing (by now a dab guide for the lower Alps) and the rare bizarre midnight folly of climbing his currently residing house through whatever serviceable means at offer, or picking occasional locks to test his skills.
Character: Extremely devoted and trustworthy to his current master (currently has none), so much so that previous employers, especially overseas, have learned to appreciate him more as a friend and confidant that as a shoe shiner. A practising Catholic, with the usual laisser faire attributable to any "practising" Italian. Is never sadistic, temperamental or loud-mouthed, rather has learned through years of restraint, the understated approach.Obsessive regard of practically anyone and anything is his forte, and little escapes him. However he's been known to act decisively, even dangerously tethering to the extreme when pressured, with the kind of detachment in these "actions" bred into him from an early age. A typical spy, or ex-spy.
Weapons: Keeps a .45 Revolver on him (troubles in Spain convinced one of his employers about the necessity to do so).
