She sits reading haiku
William Overington
Ah, the newsgroup.
In our family webspace at
(hyperlink to the main index of this webspace)
are most of my songs. How this
newsgroup has influenced some of them. I learned of the concept of a bridge
from the FAQ document. The Who's Game event produced the song Who's Game.
The diary of a song idea led to Bangles and Spangles, though the diary fell
by the wayside along the way. The Fallen Trees event led to Fallen Trees,
recently in this newsgroup but not yet in the webspace. There have also
been several kind comments about my writing which have encouraged me in my
songwriting. Now, a mention of haiku. I had met haiku before. Yet a
mention in this newsgroup led, a few hours later, to a chance line "She sits
reading haiku". A few lines. Where is a pen. Quickly, before it goes.
More words, more rhymes. Remember one of the haiku I wrote.

Ah, mostly done. Some changes. Happening now. What rhymes with now?
Embellish with large ornamental haiku brackets at start and finish. A
little polishing here and there! Please sing the song slowly.
She sits reading haiku
A newsgroup posting
Words of a song start forming
A rush for a pen
She sits reading haiku
She sits for a while
Some make her think
A few make her smile
Some make her dream softly
Of a certain young man
Some of the blossom
In the spring in Japan
She sits reading haiku
Printed books allow
Events written long ago
Happening now
Five syllables, then seven
Now a further five
Thought and ingenuity
Haiku writers strive
She sits reading haiku
Words dance beneath her eyes
As an astrolabe of brass
Can model starry skies
She sits reading haiku
Ideas unfold
Set in a laid down pattern
A story is told
A song gilds the air
Words in ink upon paper
