BUSINESS SYSTEM GROUP (BSG)1/9/97 till date

BSG Site Engineer on sites spanning from Securities and futures Authority, CIBC Wood Gundy (bank), Sumitomo Bank, CIA media, Marathon Oil and SMC pneumatics. Skills specification changes

with each site and my job requires me to be flexible and being able to work in different environments(NetWare or Windows NT), fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of hardware (printers, laptop, desktop and servers) and software. Building of Compaq servers and workstations, 1st and 2nd line support (also depending on site). Good knowledge of networks. NetWare and Windows NT administration. Dealer’s floor support.

CLOSE BROTHERS 11/8/97 (two weeks contract)

Contracted as the site Engineer in charge of all the hardware and software problems on the site. My job involved me to be able to demonstrate a high level of hardware troubleshooting coupled with software and administrative skills. I was in charge of a hundred and fifty users over a NetWare 3.12 network.

SECURITIES AND FUTURES AUTHORITY (SFA) 6/5/97 –8/8/97

I worked alongside the networking team who are administrating 300 users/4 servers NetWare 3.12 network(which was we upgraded to NetWare 4.11). I was the support engineer on the site in charge of installation, troubleshooting of all hardware, software and network problems on the workstations and printers in the building. This position required me to rapidly understand the problem at hand and take the appropriate action. I also perform administrative tasks assisting the network administrators.

Some specific tasks:

  1. Setting up of users, administering and troubleshooting over an Intranetware network.
  2. Using and management of Arcserve6.0 to restore and backup client workstations.
  3. Installation and upgrading of the Chameleon NetManage software used for the TCP/IP protocol on the workstations. Most of the workstations use windows 3.1 as the operating system.
  4. Troubleshooting and managing of windows 3.1.
  5. Installation and Setting up printer s, printer queues over the network using HP JETADMIN software.

PROJECTS:

The rollout of 100 Compaq 6180/1620 Novell 3.12 workstations that required me restoring each PC using Arcserve6.0, configuring and setting each up to suit each specific user. I also had to develop and document all my procedures for the rollout. And worked in the team that upgraded the network from NetWare 3.12 to Intranetware 4.11.

My job includes installation of PCs, UNIX SUNS and monitors, moving of the equipment and trouble shooting. WE also have to do occasional NT workstation rollout and I.P configuration of NetWare client machines. My site is the CREDIT SUISSE FIRST BOSTON Bank located in Canary wharf.

 

HENDERSON INVESTMENT (contract work for PANACEA) April 1997

I was contracted as a site engineer in charge of rollout of new LaserJet printers on to the system. My job included upgrading of memory, installation of network cards, setting up and installation of the new printers. I was required to configure each printer after upgrading and setting-up. My job also included setting it up on to the network for the clients, down loading the drivers from the server and providing basic support to the clients on usage.

I was contracted as build and configuration Engineer. My job is to receive consumer’s orders, study the order and be able see what are required by the consumer and install and configure to the consumers' preference. (Compaq and a few Toshiba)

VIGLEN (contract work)

(March 1997/ April 1997)

Viglen is a computer manufacturing company based in Perivale. My job title included testing of the computers, troubleshooting and repairs. I was also involved in installing of software that included Windows 95, Windows 3.11, Windows for work-groups and Windows NT, each software installed had to be tested and checked. Through my work in VIGLEN I gained strong knowledge of configuration of computers to different specifications, testing and hardware repairs.

EXCALIBAR DATA SERVICES: (Part time)

(December 1996/February 1997)

My work in this company includes the creation of weekly status reports for the firm using Excel and Word for Windows, maintenance of their computers and the installation of software on their network. I took part in upgrading and updating the systems being used, weekly checks on the network cables, connections and providing basic support for the user's application in Windows NT Network. Through my work at Excalibar I have gained experience in using and maintaining Windows 3.1 through Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems and also installation of the software applications i.e. MS office, including MS DOS, fax modems and network cards.

 

Personal Statement

I am commented as being a well-organised, presentable and amiable person. I am electronics engineer with computer maintenance and installation skills, a good communicator and enjoy actively participating in teamwork. I have substantial experience in a range of different software packages and have an excellent capacity to learn new skills. I take all work that I undertake seriously and maintain professionalism at all times in the workplace. At the moment I am pursing my Compaq ASE certification and Novell 4.11 certification.

Personal Interests

I enjoy travelling and meeting people. Watching football, tennis, going to gym and reading novels is my pastimes. I also enjoy conducting repairs and building computers for my friends in my spare time.
